Hunathing vestra is the name of this county which offers a lot of great places for

visiting by car og hiking.

The Vatnsnespeninsula is well known for a huge colonie of seals one of the biggest in Iceland.


Borgarvirki , fortress is  a 10-15m high strata of basalt, 177 m below sea. View point with a

magniciefient view over lakes of this area, the villages of Blönduós

and Skagaströnd and the mountains.

The glacier Eiriksjökull can be seen in good weather conditions.

One of the most valuable suits in Iceland.


Hvítserkur , the white rock  has it´s name from bird dropping.

A picturesque rock formation in the sea and a place of many species of birds

Huge seal colonies can be seen on the other side

where the lake runs into the sea.



Illugastaðir, a historical place where Natan Ketilsson and

Peter Jónsson were murdered by Agnes Magnúsdóttir

and Friðrík Sigurðsson. This incident led to the last execution

in Iceland and this event happens in Thristapar

in Austur Húnavatnssýsla. The monument of Natan´s forge can still be seen .

Illugastaðir is a great place for watching seals which are laying

on rocks in the sea. A walking path get´s you closer to this place.


Hamarsrétt: a sheep round- up at the beach. The only one by seashore in Iceland.

Traditional event for rounding up sheep in middle of September.

Ánastaðastapi: a picturesque sharped rock in the sea

which can easily be reached by a path down to the beach.


Skarð: hot water can be found by the sea. Ideal place for taking a footbath.


Hvammstangi: a village in the Midfjörður fjord with less than 600 inhabitans.

The village has one supermarket, a bank , postoffice, a great swimming pool

with hot tubs , sauna and solarium. Gallery Bardúsa with handcrafts of this area,

a wool factory and the sealcentre with an exhibition of seal and coast life

Laugarbakki: a small village with 65 inhabitants. Handcraftshop Langafit and 

the Grettiscentre with a vikinggarden                                                                                  

where you can buy handcrafts based on ancient time ( viking clothes  and swords).



Restaurants are in Viðigerði  in the countryside( 5 km from the farm)

café and restaurant Sirop in Hvammstangi,

Gauksmýri lodge ( only on request), 4 km from the farm

and the restaurant at hótel Edda in Laugarbakki.


Discover the moorlands of Arnarvatnsheiði and Víðidalstunguheiði

by a jeep or on horseback.

This highlands have plenty of lakes for troutfishing ,

an unspoiled wilderness with a lot of vegetation and bird life.

An opurtunity for those who wants an experience of adventure

in a rural wild nature far away from the civilisation.


Kolugljúfur waterfalls  falling in a tremendous canyon in the river Víðdalsá.
