Neðra -Vatnshorn is a farm in Linakradalur which is a small and green valley that lies east of Miðfjarðarháls. The valley is a moorland and the farm stand side by side by the mountains of Vatnsnes. The name of this valley is drawn from cotton grass which could have been there when people settled there. This reminded the settlers of linen fields in their homeland.
On the mountain you have a good view over the lake and the moors of the higland of Víðidalstunguheidi. In good weather condtions you can see the tremendious glacier Eiriksjökull, southwest of the farm.
The farm owns a land by Miðfjarðarvatn a lake in the middle of Línakradalur. In old days the people of Miðfjörður had their foodball games on the frozen lake.
The farm belonged to the church of Hólar in Hjaltadalur( Skagafjörður) in 1520 but was sold in the time of Jón Arason bishop. 1801 the church sold the farm to a farmer and after 1845 the farm has devided in two farms: Efra (upper ) and Nedra-Vatnshorn (lower).
The farm Neðra-Vatnshorn is a working farm with 450 sheep and 30 horses at all age. It belongs to Rúnar , his wife and two daughters who are helping with the work to be done. 
There is over 350 ha land for grazing sheep and horses and a small part of the lake Miðfjarðarvatn where the farmer is fishing trout by boat with a toil.
26 ha are growing fields both for grazing in spring and fall and cutting gras to make big bales for winter to feed sheep and horses. 
During summertime all ewes are staying in the mountain for several weeks until they are rounded up in middle of September.Our guests are welcome to spend time with the farmer and watch him at work. In spring you can see our ewes lambing and our mares having their foals,
and during September you can spend a day watching the sheep
and horses being rounded up and brought down from the mountains

in an unspoilt environment.
At the farm we breed sheep
with a low average of fat
and good muscle to get the
best quantity of meet.
90% of our ewes have twins
and some do have three lambs.
