Summer events 2010:

June the 18th: coastal buffet at Hamarsbúð in Vatnsnespeninsula. The housewifes of Vatnsnes serve

delicious food based on customs from ancient days.

Taste rare homemade food in ( try fish, smoked fish, smoked and unsmoked meet of seal, sour eggs

and more). Music and fun in the the tent. Hiking trip of 5 km along the coast from Ánastaðastapi rock

to Hamarsbúð where the festival takes place at 7.p.m.

Competition in hiking or running/marathon:

11 km over the mountains on saturday the 18th of June

The route starts at a farm in Vesturhóp and it finish at the camping site of Hvammstangi.

Prices for the three best in each event and broiled hot dog .

Fire in Hunathing vestra: f

festival of the Youth which takes place every year , 4 days in end of July( last days of July). Exhibitions, music, art, dance , horses and much more. Highlight on Saturday is a concert in Borgarvirki fortress

with candle all over the fortress.

Phenomenal event in a magnicifent place with a beautiful view over the peninsula.

Fire in Húnathing begins on Wendesday the 21rst and ends on Sunday the 25th

Great seal count:

in July on a Sunday the 25th. Everyone is welcome to walk in small groups along the shores of Vatnsnes trying to count the seals which are seen. At the end of the counting hot chocolate and cookies awaits the guest at Sealcentre in Hvammstangi. Last year the number of counted seals were over 700.

Festival of Grettir the strong:

On the first week end of August ( bank holiday of Iceland) takes places a festival in Laugarbakki where Icelandic vikings show different fights from ancient time.On Sunday there is a competition

in the vikinggarden at Laugarbakki where everyone can take part in and prove his /her strength

like Grettir did in those days. The strongest man/woman wins the Grettistrophy

and the next two best men and women win a second/ third price.

Horses round up: the last Saturday in September and the first weekend in October,

farmers round up their horses from the mountains of Vatnsnes and the highlands of Víðidalstunguheiði.

Tourists can take art in the later event to round up the horses from the highlands.

This is an unforgettable adventure in an unspoiled environment.

In a hut up on Víðidalstunguheiði guests can buy a homemade soup with lambmeet and vegetable in it.

This event is on Friday and the next day the horses are rounded up

in a big paddock by a farm. There are a lot of events in the round up as an auction of

some horses at all age and a drawing.

The best winning is is a foal from a breeder in the peninsula of Víðidalur.

in August there are rooms available on most days except the 6th, 11th, 22nd and 23rd.
